Office Documents in the Cloud - solution recommendation

A client of mine is a cloud based web solution where documents (Word, Excel) can be hosted online and other users can see when the document was recently edited or changed. Idealy, this could be done without having to select properties or having to jump through hoops just to see when the document was last changed.

The client would also like to able to host AutoCad files on the same platform. There are approx 8 users.

(They tried Office 365 and did not like it.)

unfortunately MS does not let other players into its Office turf, so your client is stuck with whatever MS has to offer.

You can use office and google docs with a disk mapping tool like Gladinet.
Gladinet lets you map a google docs/gmail account to a disk drive, and then you can use a browser to manage the documents status.

The functionality you're looking for exists in several high-end document management systems, but the price, the price....

Did you try google apps for business?

no, the owner and his staff all seem to be Office afficionados . As much as I would like to, I am not going to risk moving them all over to Googledocs. This client wants to stick to Office.

thank you shalomc,
I have submitted Gladinet to the client as a proposal and if they accept will trial them a solution.

Thanks everyone who responded.
