IIS7 Invalid Application Path

I am getting and invalid application path error when I try to test the settings all my applications--all the directories are doing this. The pages (so far)  will come up in the browser though.
This seems to be a common issue with IIS7.

We are running the Application Pools under the Network service Identity.
If I test as an adminstator, I can eliminate the error.

I have read that it could be a permission issue, but I am not sure how to  give the application pool identity read access as suggested in the text below"  I tried changing the pools to another type of identity, but still got the error.

"The server is configured to use pass-through authentication with a built-in account to access the specified physical path. However, IIS Manager cannot verify whether the built-in account has access. Make sure that the application pool identity has Read access to the physical path. If this server is joined to a domain, and the application pool identity is NetworkService or LocalSystem, verify that <domain>\<computer_name>$ has Read access to the physical path. Then test these settings again."

Thank you.
