We want to move our WSUS internal db from its current Windows 2008 server to our SQL server, which is Server 2008 R2 with SQL 2008. I have found a number of migration scenarios here but not this one. The WSUS install will stay where it is.

BTW, I could not find WSUS anywhere in the list of EE topics...

This Technet article seems to walk through the process you're asking about:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc708558(v=ws.10).aspx

Essentially, you detach the database from the Internal DB (which is a modified version of SQL Express), attach it to your SQL Server, and then make some registry changes on your WSUS server to tell it where to find the database (updating the connection string).

There are hundreds of articles out there about physically moving the data files, but keeping the Windows Internal DB, which isn't what you're looking for, so this one was a bit tough to find.

That looks like what I need. I refers to SQL 2005 but I do not think that that will matter though. Thanks.
