Tasks: 433 total, 4 running, 421 sleeping, 0 stopped, 8 zombie
Cpu(s): 0.0%us, 6.2%sy, 0.0%ni, 93.7%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.0%si, 0.0%st
Mem: 99044308k total, 9209052k used, 89835256k free, 94476k buffers
Swap: 68005880k total, 0k used, 68005880k free, 7727056k cached

PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
  123 root 20 0 0 0 0 R 100.0 0.0 473:46.80 kacpi_notify

I looked up kacpi_notify, and saw several threads that siad this process took extra cycles when the machine was hot.

I checked the system status, but the temparatures were normal

How can I further track this down

(I had previously performed several reboots with the same problem reoccuring.

Thinking the machine must have been hop, even though the system status showed otherwise, I turned the machine off for an hour

I booted up after an hour, and the problem went away.
