We are a small to med size business and have budgeted for a SAN this year. I am the multi-hat wearing Sys Admin guy who will be performing all of the project tasks to get it up and running, but alas, I know nothing about planning, designing, implementing and managing a SAN. From what I hear, a good amount of knowledge and experience is required to successfully implement one into a business environment, and I am in dire need of learning how to do this somewhat quickly.
What material and online resources are available for me to get started? It seems that there is limited printed material on Amazon about learning SAN technology, as well as any online searches I have looked up. I understand this SANs are very much vendor specific which can also make this more difficult for me.
Please know that we do not have a specific vendor chosen yet, but we may go with a very low budget small business SAN from Dell, as their pricing is the most competitive that we have seen. We are also looking at HP SANs. Also, the SAN will be hosting mostly VM (hyper v) space, as well at SQL data.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
