We started using Smartlist Builder and looks great.

Thank you

Hi,

SmartList Builder allows you to query non-GP databases and tables.  Go to Tools -> SmartList Builder -> Security -> SQL Table Security and select the tables and views.

So if you have custom tables in your GP database, it's easy to include them in a custom smart list.

I prefer to create views first, and then attach to those in SmartList Builder, but you can select multiple tables and do joins within SLB.  Just make sure to use GRANT statements to give DYNGRP access to the view (e.g. GRANT SELECT ON <view> TO DYNGRP).

It appears that SLB only displays the databases in the GP SQL instance.  I haven't tried connecting to a different SQL Server or instance.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks,

Thank you very much.

So if we were to add another table from another database, not being the GP database working on, the best way is using a View where it would join these tables from another database and then use this View in Smartlist Builder.

Am I correct?

Hi, just noticed that the Query created in Smartlist Builder doesn't appear in the regular Smartlist so we can run them.

Si this also within "Tools -> SmartList Builder -> Security" so it can be used by users to display them?

Discard the last entry.  I opened up my other GP version 10 and the Queries created do show in Smarlist.  There must be  something wrong with the version 9 we are working in.  Will verify and if help needed regards this issue, will place another question.

Hi,

Regarding your question about other databases, yes, creating a view to join in the other databases or external data sources should work.  Just make sure to test with non-sa users to ensure that there are no permission issues with the view accessing the non-GP data.
