I have looked for the andwer elsewhere, but not found anything that made sense.
Windows 7, Pro, running HP D4260. All drivers updated. Usually happens somethime in the morning. A reboot fixes it, but it may (not) show up again not too long later.

Printer is attached via USB and NOT shared on the network.
Office Manager has same thing happen from time to time.

Yipes, I've got to learn to take time to check my typing!  I meant Printer is HP D4260. The box is a Lenovo ThinkCentre desktop.

Have you cheked your Event Viewer for any errors?
it sounds to me like your spooler service is crashing. Maybe remove HP startup apps from msconfig / startup and uncheck HP apps

Okay, I checked task manager and no spooler process errors. However, I did find that Excel was crashing.  Something in Excel is hosing the Printer. I can find and use the printer in Word, IE and Outlook.

That leads me to think that some VBA code in Excel is going awry. We use workbooks that are heavily VBA coded for Shop floor control. I'll look into it!

I'm going to leave this open for a bit to see what else might pop up.

The other printers work fine. But they are all "Virtual" print drivers. not hardwared to the PC.
