Article/Procedure on Doing A Clean Install

There comes a point in time when  the only solution to solve computer software issues is to do a clean install of the operating system. Do you have a reference to a good article and/or procedure on the steps to do a clean install of Windows XP and proper configuration afterwards? Also prerequisite activities to performing a clean install?

Do you have a specific problem or just want everything clean?  If you have a problem you could do a repair install and not lose any data or programs.

On a clean install it would be best to copy everything to an external drive so that when you realize you forgot something it will be there.  Be sure you have all your program disks and keys as well as all your email settings and files if you have local email.

Don't worry about the F6 driver step unless setup doesn't see your hard disk
