How to: Add ping command to Mac desktop

Hello Experts, I need help with an Apple Mac (OS x 190.7.3).  How to:  put an icon on the desktop that will ping an address?

Background:  This user sometimes has internet and VPN connectivity problems.  On his old Windows machines I setup three desktop icons to ping connections to his router, ISP gateway, and remote site.

On the Mac I found the Network Utility and can run a ping.  Now I want to make it simple for the user.  I am a Mac rookie, so be easy on me!

thanks,

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Use Automator http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2488 to create a script to ping using Terminal.app

Terminal.app is found in /applications/utilities and works much like the Windows command console.
