IP location database function

Hi,
I need a IP geolocation function for country and if it is possible also for the city.
I used an online geolocation but it is working very slow. So I need a free database and a php function that will tell me the country and maybe the city of my visitor!

Please help me!

Thank you!

This article will tell you how it works.
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web_Development/Web_Languages-Standards/PHP/PHP_Databases/A_3437-IP-Address-to-Country-in-PHP.html

You may also find the geoio service to be useful.
http://www.geoio.com/

I doubt if you will find anything that is both free and accurate, so you might want to look at the costs for the MaxMind data sets and put that into the budget.

Best of luck with your project, ~Ray

This PHP class uses the PHP Webservice of http://www.geoplugin.com/ to geolocate IP addresses

Geographical location of the IP address (visitor) and locate currency (symbol, code and exchange rate) are returned.

And use it like this:
<?php
require_once('geoplugin.class.php');
// IP localization using GeoIP service
$geoplugin = new geoPlugin();
try{
        $geoplugin->locate();
        // there you go, now you will have the following information available
