Outlook 2007-problem

I have noticed when I am Outlook 2007 it will automatically receive mail, but it I click the receive and send button it will not do anything, I have no idea why this will not work. Anybody have any ideas?

IN outlook
go to Tools>Send Receive>Send Receive Settings>Show Progess

IN this windows make sure the tick is REMOVED from "Dont show this dialouge box during send/receive"
