How to release source code of a project?

Hello, my friends, please help me to help my users :)

I am the developer of web page screenshot chrome extension (more than 600,000 users),
I think to release the source code of the project to the public.

I never did something like that before, and I will appreciate any tip.

1. Witch license to use? GPL, APACHE? I don't really know the difference's.
2. Witch system to use? source-forge? GitHub? google code?
3. Do I need to use Git or something else?
4. Witch software to use in Windows to push updated? (Now I am using mSysGit, and it's now so easy)

There is any community that can help me to write the wiki pages, and etc'?
How I open and manage that community?

I can offer an observation about some parts of this.  The fabulously popular PHP scripting language has recently moved to GIT.

Regarding license terms, you should consult a lawyer.  If you want to be completely free and open-source, the GPL may be a good choice.

If you have 600,000 users, you will find a strong community that can help with the Wiki.

A good screenshot extension is a wonderful contribution to the community.  I salute you for your effort! ~Ray
