Help me with this Javascript Please!

Should be a simple question for an advanced Javascripter... I am terrible at it.

Trying to get this to work with a field that is:   name="myarray[]"

Here's what I have:

        <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
                function limitText(limitField, limitCount, limitNum) {
                	if (limitField.value.length > limitNum) {
                		limitField.value = limitField.value.substring(0, limitNum);
                	} else {
                		limitCount.value = limitNum - limitField.value.length;
                	}
                }
        </script>

Open in new window

and:

<textarea rows="3" cols="80" name="work_duties[]" onKeyDown="limitText(this.form.work_duties[],this.form.countdown,200);" onKeyUp="limitText(this.form.work_duties[],this.form.countdown,200);">
(You have <input readonly type="text" name="countdown" size="1"> characters left)

Open in new window

It works with a textarea that has a normal (non-array) name.

Thanks for your help.

It should work just by changing the textarea definition as follows:

<textarea rows="3" cols="80" name="work_duties[]" onKeyDown="limitText(this,this.form.countdown,200);" onKeyUp="limitText(this,this.form.countdown,200);">
