How does one go about deleting old e-mails earlier than a certain date?

Hello again everyone!  I hope all is well!

I am currently running exchange 2003 and my backup job for my store is taking an enormous amount of time.

I ran exmerge and converted all older e-mails into psts for later retrieval if need be.  I need to delete any messages prior to 2009.

What are the best practices involving this matter?

Thanks in advance! =)

You can configure mailbox manager policy to control mailboxes for auto purge based on age and size.
