Looks like something with Excel viewer itself.  When clicking on XLVIEW it give the same error as above.  I guess the excel viewer needs to worked out on all Citrix servers.

Yes the latest version.  Weird, no idea what's going on.  I was able to put a Compatibility more Windows 2008 Server Service Pack 1.  Now the app opens locally on the server.  But still fails remotely.

Check the circumstances under which Excel is crashing.  It may be a complex or macro-rich spreadsheet that is causing the issue.  I had a similar issue with PowerPoint, and the issue was related to an add-in to a particular presentation that made the server get and stay at 100% utilization in terms of CPU (memory wasn't far behind) until the app crashed.

If you have EdgeSight or can recreate the issue, look to see if server resources are being maximized when the spreadsheet is open.  Also, reboot the server first and then try several different spreadsheets, starting with a simple one.

A few other potential solutions:
- If the spreadsheet is very large and being accessed from a slow network drive, it may be timing out and causing Excel to crash.
- Look at the detailed information in the Event Viewer to see if there are any additional clues.
- If you do have EdgeSight, use the User or Device Troubleshooter to see what else is happening on that server at that same time.  It could be that other processes are highly utilizing the server and thus when Excel Viewer opens, it's the straw that breaks the camel's back.

IT, Stop Being Called Into Every Meeting

Highfive is so simple that setting up every meeting room takes just minutes and every employee will be able to start or join a call from any room with ease. Never be called into a meeting just to get it started again. This is how video conferencing should work!

Thanks joharder. Tried different files - same thing.
Resources are fine also.  I have 3 servers in Citrix farm and all the same. Tried to reboot also. Not sure if we have EdgeSight.  Is this part of Citrix module?

Here is what I see in Application event log.  EventID: 1000

Being that so far we've stricken out, let's try this:
-- Being that the most recent version of Excel Viewer is based on Excel 2007 (not 2010), it's possible that your spreadsheets embed functionality only available in the latest version.  Try saving one or more xlsx files as xls files in the full version of Excel and then opening with Excel Viewer.
- Uninstall Excel Viewer on at least one server and re-install to ensure that media isn't the issue.
- Did you ever have full Excel on those servers?  If so, I have to wonder if something residual in the registry isn't conflicting with Excel Viewer.

EdgeSight is a fantastic monitoring tool that's available if you have Platinum licensing.  If you are licensed for it, I strongly recommend it!

We have Xenapp 6 Platinum edition
License server 11.9
Citrix Access Gateway VPX 5.0.4

Is the EdgeSight comes with that or needs to be licensed separately?

Got an additional related question.  It looks like the Microsoft Office Viewers are not listed as supported on the Windows 2008 R2 platform. Would it work removing the Office Viewers , and replacing the office software with Open Office/ Libra office or the full Microsoft suit?

Is Open Office / Libra free?
What about the Full MS suit?  Do I need to buy a CAL for each user?  I have few hundreds.  Or per Citrix Server?  I have 3.
Please advice.  Thank you!

Open Office is free openoffice.org (The Free and Open Productivity Suite)

You will need a Volume License Office CAL for each user that "may" use the software.
