Windows 2008 R2
SQL Server 2005

SQL is installed and working fine - BUT - it does not have any VSS Writers
When I issue the command "vssadmin list writers"  it lists a bunch and no errors but none of them have anything to do with SQL.

What could make this happen?

That's odd. You should see an entry that reads "SqlServerWriter". Restart Volume Shadow Copy and SQL's services and rerun list writers.
