Outlook 2010 is causing messages to be flagged multiple times

For some reason whenever I flag a message in Outlook on my computer it winds up flagging the same message multiple times.

I can't figure out for the life of me what's going on.  I think part of it has to do with whenever it does a send/receive instead of doing a receive like it normally does it

Instead it says Synchronizing subscribed folders for "my gmail account".

I can't figure out how to correct this can someone please help

What exactly do you  mean by flagging?

You can flag an email for Follow up, but you can only apply 1 flag to each email.

So not really clear on how an email gets flagged multiple times.

Could you supply a screen shot?

INitially I would make sure office 2010 sp1 is installed
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2460049

Then I would consider resetting rules and views as flagging, Organizing and categories are simply views

So close outlook and reopen using
Start>Run>Outlook.exe /cleanviews

close and reopen again using
start>run>outlook.exe /cleanrules
