Following are some of the very generic tips I would like to share, let me know if this was helpful.

Database related tasks:

Please do the following on the SQL server to maintain the database indexes.

1.      CREATE a utility database called DB_maintenance
CREATE DATABASE [DB_MAINTENANCE]

2.      Execute the attached “dba_indexDefrag_sp_v41” script on DB_MAINTENANCE database

3.      Now execute the attached “Create_Daily_DB_INDEX_Maintenance_job.sql” script.

Create a seperate SQL job to check database integrity.
Create a seperate SQL job to update statistics on all databases.

Sharepoint related tasks:
Use ULS log viewer to go through the SharePoint ULS log file to trouble shoot any issue.
Constantly monitor user profile sync
Constantly monitor Crawl job and the related database size.
Use perfmon to collect and monitor performance metrics.
Monitoring the farm and resolving problems using SharePoint Health Analyzer
