I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Who is your email provider and what client do you use?

Is there possibly still a copy on the email server?

No there isn't because the security and privacy settings set on the mail provider, but if u opened it by program like Thunderbird or Office outlook i think u can if do u want the method i can give it for u.

Hmm, it could still be in the mail file of the Mail software. Usually they just mark the space as unoccupied, until you compact the file (folder).

here is a method for outlook : http://www.outlook-tips.net/how-to/recover-deleted-messages/
(backup the pst file before you do anything)

thunderbird files you can open in any text editor, and check for the missing mails

Legal reasons?

It depends on who might come looking for the email, you can get rid of it so that there is no obvious sign, but if you are talking forensic data annalists and/or criminal activity, then anyone who advises you on this forum could be asked questions as well

Best go to a data recovery company who can provide a solution and be responsible for any advice they might give you

Rest assured if your email contains information or images that are dubious, just removing them from your machine will not stop law enforcement, if it's serious enough they will find it, either on your computer or someone elses
