outlook gives error when attempting to open .PST file

I've installed office 2010 on a new laptop.
Outlook opens the standard .PST file just fine, but when I want to add another .PST file that I use for archiving, I cannot even reach the open .PST dialog.

When I click on "File" tab, then "Open", then "Open Outlook Data File" I get the error "cannot find this file. Verify the path and file name are correct".
So I can't even choose the .PST to open.

Is there something in the registry I need to reset?

I've tried repairing office 2010 from the install disk.
I even uninstalled and then re-installed it.
all to no avail.

please help. :-)

Why dont you try deleteing your user profile.
make sure you backup all your data before doing that.

this worked, of course.  But I still think it's strange in the old account it wouldn't even show me any dialog for selecting a .PST anymore. :-)

When you say delete the profile, are you refering to the outlook profile, or windows profile? I have the same exact error.
