Unless you have some agreement with a cell provider to hook into their network, the only way I know to send SMS from code is to send it as an email.

Many providers provide a specially-constructed email address for each of their users. An email sent to this address will be delivered to the user's handset by their provider's network. For example, I have Verizon. I can send an email to 8005551212@vtext.com--not my real number ; ) --and I will receive the message on my phone as an SMS. I am fairly sure the other carriers do something similar, but I've only had Verizon, so I'm not totally sure. It would be simple to either call the provider or search their website, though, I think.
