Server 2008 restore

I am doing a mock server crash.  I have performed a bare metal backup of the current server and I am attempting to restore it onto a different server. (totally different hardware)  The backup was stored to an external hard drive which I believe has a USB 3 interface.  When I user the startup 2008 disc and chose repair, and then select restore PC, the system cannot find any backup (and it is plugged into the USB port).  However I did do a practice backup and restore on the spare (different server) using an external drive USB2 interface and it found the backup disc.  Is here an issue using USB3 interface and 2008 startup?

USB 3 drivers are not native with Server 2008. If you have the relevant drivers on a USB stick (not USB3) then you can manually load them before you select the backup image.
