Hello,

Today I have tried to apply service pack 3 for my exchange 2007 server on sbs 2008 sp1
the installation went smooth with CAS role but when it gets to installing hub transport role
I get an error saying:

Error:  service 'msexchangetransportlogsearch' failed to start, check the vent log for possible reasons for the service start failure

looking at the eventvwr i get:
Error:  service 'msexchangetransportlogsearch' failed to start, check the event log for possible reasons for the service start failure
is that funny or sad? my server is not functional now, I have tried googling with no success, not much information about this error, I have tried modifying the hosts file with no luck, tried to modify the service credentials but it still won't start (even if I try manually)

I would love to get some experts suggestions regarding this, PLEEEEASE help.

SORRY
This error comes before the one above in event log:

Watson report about to be sent to dw20.exe for process id: 7980, with parameters: E12, c-RTL-AMD64, 08.03.0083.006, MSExchangeTransportLogSearch, MSExchangeTransportLogSearch, M.E.T.L.S.LogSearchService.OnConfigurationLoad,
System.TypeLoadException, 8fca, 08.03.0083.000.  ErrorReportingEnabled: False

Still no results in google..

The only thing you will need to install first is Windows Installer 4.5 which will require a reboot. Forefront needs to be disabled first which is documented, but other than that, it goes straight in.

thank you dipak1383 for the quick response.

I don't have forefront, I have installed windows installed 4.5 which didn't help.
I have decided to remove exchange from the server and re-install it on an Microsoft expert advise, he looked at the server and said this is the best way since the server was migrated from 2003 in the past and exchange install is broken, could you please give a second advise on this guide?

http://exchangemaster.wordpress.com/2010/01/03/how-to-fully-re-install-exchange-on-sbs-2008-3/

in addition, what are the steps necessary for re-attaching mailboxes after reinstall (if needed)?

Solved by doing that:

1. uninstalling roles installed by exchange 2007 sp3 including management tools
2. reboot
3. uninstall IIS
4. Reboot again
5. install IIS
6. Reboot
7. Install exchange 2007 sp3

had to be done in that order, nothing else worked..
