hello experts, i need a new tape drive and have been looking at HP primarily.  anyone out there have a recommendation on an LTO5 drive that reads LTO2?  i have many LTO2 tapes that i need to keep around for archival purposes and dont yet want to get rid of it.

another option is to keep both my old tape autoloader and the new lto5 autoloader in the same rack until we phase out the lto2s....but i would like to find an all - in - one solution.

thanks

As far as I've read, LTO-5 can read back to LTO-3.  Not LTO-2, it's not in the design spec for LTO-5 regardless of whose brand name is on the drive.

from my research i have also found that none seem to go back to lto2.  my question was basically just last ditch effort before i decided to keep both autoloaders up and running.

Yeah, you probably want to keep the old LTO-2 system online and maybe try to do an orderly transition all your important LTO-2 media to LTO-5.  When we got our Quantum LTO-5 library, we had to keep our old AIT library online for the same reason.
