Please describe method for adding item count anywhere I want in my SP Team Site.

are you looking at the count of items in the list /document library? If yes, you could check View all site content & see the actual count of the items in the list /document library.

Self-discovered...you can go into List Settings and under Totals, you can specify that a column include totals. If you pick a required field, such as Title, you will know that every item is alwasy being counted. "Count=X" floats at the top of the list.
