Just tried to revert a drive with VSS and it errored.

"Failed to initiate revert of volume"

Checked the event logs and we had the below at each creation point

Have attached Application event log from VSS schedule point. +/- ten mins
Have had to change the file type to .txt, you will need to edit the extention to .evtx

Anyone any ideas?

Server is Server 2008

1) Run chkdsk /r on your volumes.

2) make sure there are no hardware issues  ( RAM, CPU, HD, controller )

3) make sure you have a full physical backup, in case some HW is dying

4) reboot the server and try a manual backup

I hope this helps !

never found a solution to this, basically kept reverting back to earlier and earlier points and eventually got one that worked.

sysexpert

1) had tried
2) all has been fine since
3) indeed
4) tried rebooting
