hi there,
Im on the market for a template to launch my store. I know there are a couple out there but i'm not 100% sure which one to go with.
the list i saw goes like this:
OsCommerce
Magento
Zen Cart
VirtueMart
CRE

i listed them in order of a appearance not in order of preference.

Now i have a dedicated box i want to use for this, my box is as follows Windows 2008 Server with SQL 2008 and it runs php as well it does have mySql but i prefer to run it on SQL Server.
what would be the best way to go as far as setting, usability and security?
thanks

OSCommerce is outdated and the code is a real mess, not for the faint-hearted or those needing customizations.

Magento is geared more to enterprise type stores, very large vendors vs. smaller mom-pop type stores. Also their code is atrocious if you need customizations.

Zen Cart is a branche of OSComemrce, so...

VirtueMart requires Joomla!,if you are not familar with Joomla!, it will be a hassle.

Personally, I like Prestashop. It is free and very easy to use and customize. The only drawback I see is that many 3rd-party modules are not fully tested and most are not free.

It is very simple to setup and theme, Good for smaller mom-pop shops up to full blown B2B systems.
