Disk Space Shrinking on my shell account
Posted on 2012-04-12
I am relatively a noob when it comes to *nix administration but I'm fairly technical.
I've had a web hosting account with a pretty large host for years complete with shell access.
All of the sudden my disk space became full (2.7T). I became pretty shocked and started deleting old stuff only to see the disk space get full again.
Literally as I deleted things the space would get full instantly as verified with df -h
I have tried to track down the usage with 'du' but come up empty.
Is there anyway I can find where these new files are coming from and what is eating my disk space?
The web host hasnt been much help as of yet, they've instructed me to use commands like df -h and du | sort etc.
I am pretty sure this is not just due to accumulated files. I dont have more then 2gb worth of files on the machines. This has to be something inadvertant or malicious.
Any feedback or direction would be appreciated.
