How to set up Zyxel DSL Modem for at&T

I have a ZyXel p-660R-ELNK modem that earthlink ISP sent me when I signed up with them and then later I switched to AT&T (at that time it was belllsouth).  The Modem that AT&T sent me went out and I need to purchase a new one.  AT&T wants to charge me $80.00 for a new one so I am trying to use the ZyXel from earthlink.  I was told (by an AT&T Rep) that it should work, but they do not have the documentation on it to know how to tell me the configure it.  If someone could help me with this, I would appreciate very much.

Hello,

Are you able to access the ZyXel's web control panel?  If it is like the motorola modems that have a sticker on it to reveal it's default IP address, that is how to access it.

All you should need is your AT&T account username and password (e.g. user@att.net).  Set the modem to connect with PPPoE which will give you the fields to enter your ATT username and password.  The other setting that I have used is to set the Keep alive to 180 seconds.

Yes, I am able to ecces the interface fine.  I set all the setting like I had in the modem from ATT&T and that still didn't work.

I emailed Zyxel and they said they would get back to me within the next two business days, so that is why I came here because I needed an answer ASAP, but to my surprise they emailed me back just now,  Here is what they said:  "Unfortunately this modem will not work with any other provider other than earthlink. The software which is on the modem is proprietary to earthlink and will not allow connection to another provider. At&t may have gotten the modem confused with our p-660r-d1, which can be used with any provider since it is unlocked and configureable."

I will close this session but I want to thank you for attempting to help me with this issue.  I will still award you the points for this
