Outlook 2010 - working offline yet prompted for password

I have a client who uses Outlook 2010 on a home desktop; Outlook is configured to connect to his Exchange mailbox in our organization and he uses VPN to connect securely to our network, to use Outlook.

When he's not connected with VPN, he wants to be able to launch Outlook and just use it in offline mode so he can lookup information and refer to emails without having to be online. The issue that comes up is when he opens Outlook with the VPN connection shut down, Outlook prompts him for user name and pasword every time; when he clicks 'cancel' Outlook hangs for about 2 min before it's usable.

His desire is that when he opens Outlook when disconnected from the corporate network, it just starts up and is usable in offline/cached mode, not unlike Outlook for Mac works.

Any ideas are appreciated, thanks.

The check to see if they have any personal folders added?

If they do, try removing them and re-opening outlook

Do they still get a prompt?

If not, could be the promt is from a password on the personal folder
