I need to disable the default web site in Windows Web Server 2008 R2.  I can't find any obvious way to do it such as right-clicking on the site name and selecting "Disable Site" from a popup menu. :)

Is stopping the site sufficient?  Or do I have to do something else?

Stopping the site is sufficient, it won't auto start.
Just to add to the mix, you probably won't want to delete it. You will want to just stop it.

You can recreate it if you do, but it is true that some applications expect it to be there: http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2005/12/09/62737.aspx

Thank you Matthew for the additional information.  Unfortunately, I already awarded the points.  Is there any way I can extend some to you to show my appreciation?
