What is the proper configuration to connect a Router to a switch?

We have three locations and at one of them if one of the servers is down, they have no internet connection.  I'm guessing the connection from the router to the switch is improperly done.  I didn't configure it so I need advice on how it should be done so if the server is up or down it doesn't matter.
I realize the users have to authenticate first, we have twp DC's at this location.

Probably you are using the server as the DNS. Add a secondary DNS to your DHCP, or to each machine if you're not using DHCP. The secondary DNS can usually be your router, or you can use a public one like

That way when your server is down your client will use the secindary DNS
