Visioneer Road Warrior Scanner

Hi, I just installed the software for this scanner but its rather confusing because the software is called Paperport and the scanner reads Visioneer Road Warrior.  Apparently the software does not include a driver because when I connected to my laptop there was no indication the computer knew it had been connected.

I'm using Win 7 and the instructions say to go to control panel Scanners and Camaras to select Paperport but I don't even have a control panel by that name.  Where can I find a driver for this scanner and how do I install it?
Thanks

Here's what I was able to pull up:

The installation should be wizard driven.

I hope this helps.

PaperPort is scanning/imaging software from a different company (Nuance). You may learn about it here:
http://nuance.com/for-individuals/by-product/paperport/index.htm

Visioneer (and many other scanner manufacturers) bundle a copy of PaperPort with their hardware. PaperPort works with ISIS, TWAIN, and WIA drivers, but PaperPort does not provide the drivers - the scanner manufacturers do. If PaperPort does not show you the drivers, that means you don't have a driver installed. So for starters, download the latest-and-greatest RoadWarrior W7 driver from the Visioneer website:
http://support.visioneer.com/products/RW120/downloads.asp

I don't know which version of PaperPort you have - the three most recent are 11, 12, and 14 (yes, Nuance got superstitious and skipped 13). Here's a screen shot of the Scan or Get Photo pane from PP12 (it's similar for 11 and 14):
Scan or Get Photo paneAfter bringing up this pane, click on the Select button and PP will show you the scanner drivers that are installed, such as this screen shot shows:
PP driversFor the Visioneer RoadWarrior in W7, you should see both TWAIN and WIA drivers. I prefer TWAIN, but for some scanners, WIA is better. My advice is to experiment with both and see which one performs better. Regards, Joe

Joe, you've given me a lot of information which I really appreciate but it's not working.  To clarify, I have a Road Warrior 120 which I have had for a long time but have not used in quite a while.  Last time I used it it was on an XP machine and this is win 7.

I downloaded and installed the driver.  Checked in add/remove and it shows up as having being installed, checked Program Files (x86) and found it there under Scan Soft so everything seems to be in order but I didn't get a Wizard during installation and when I open PaperPort, this is what I see.

By the way, I just checked under "About" and I have PaperPort 11 SE, Version 11.2 (11.2.0.335) Build ID PP-0950-056-9276.1

Don't know if this helps but thought I would pass it along.

Carlos,
I just went to the Visioneer RoadWarrior 120 Drivers and Manuals website:
http://support.visioneer.com/products/RW120/downloads.asp

It shows this file:
http://support.visioneer.com/downloads/drivers/RW120/RW120.46101025.EN.msi

And it says that this file is Version 4.6.10.1025 of the Windows 7, Vista and XP certified TWAIN and WIA drivers. The screen shot you sent of PP11.2 shows that there are no scanner drivers installed. If you install the W7 RW120 drivers that should solve the problem and the Available Scanners screen should show both TWAIN and WIA drivers. Btw, PP11.2 is a solid release. I'm still running it one of my machines, although all of my other machines have PP12.1 or PP14. Regards, Joe

One other thing. If it's still not working, I suggest that you look in Control Panel>Programs and Features, and if there are any Visioneer RW drivers, uninstall them. Then install the W7 RW drivers from the above link. If that doesn't work, try doing a Repair install of PaperPort.

Joe, I figured out the problem (I think).  I downloaded the driver you recommended and it still didn't work.  The computer did not acknowledge the driver even though all the files were they are supposed to be except for the driver itself, I don't see it in the folder where the printers /fax/etc, are.

What I think happened is that I used a disc that came with my OKI MB460 all in one machine that has several programs bundled up (including paperport) which I installed on my XP machine and works great.  The problem is that the disc does not mention Windows 7 which leads me to believe that I need to download the Paperport software for Windows 7 from somewhere else.  I looked for it last night but didn't find it so I'll try again today.

Carlos,
PP11 is the first PP version that is certified for Vista, but it is not certified for W7. The first PP version certified for W7 is PP12. However, PP11 does work on W7, except for the PaperPort Image Printer, which is not a crucial component. So you can live with PP11 on W7 if you want to save money (there is not a free upgrade from PP11 to PP12 or PP14).

You may be right about the OKI version of PP causing problems. Many scanner manufacturers bundle an "SE" copy of PP with their hardware, which may be tailored to their scanners. So it's possible that the PP which OKI bundled with the MB460 is not playing nicely with Visioneer's RW120.

You should uninstall PP (the one that came with the OKI MB460) and install the PP that came with the RW120. When you uninstall, there are up to three separate uninstalls that may need to be done: (1) PP11 itself; (2) PDF Create (may or may not be there, depending on the SE version); (3) PP Image Printer (it's always part of the SE versions, but it's almost surely not going to be there on W7).

If you want to get a version certified for W7, I suggest getting the latest-and-greatest PP14 at Amazon. It is on sale for $35.99 with free shipping:
http://www.amazon.com/Nuance-Communications-Inc-6809A-G00-140-Paperport/dp/B005CELKLM/

This is the Standard version, not Professional, but I'm sure it has enough features for you. This is the full retail version (not an OEM/SE version), so it will work with any scanner that has ISIS, TWAIN, or WIA drivers. This will allow you to run the same software in the future on W7 if you should get a new scanner. Regards, Joe
