Alternatives to Exchange Server

I do not know what happened but all of a sudden my Exchange Server 2010 has just gone bezerk. My admin rights wont even let me configure things like I need to. So are there any alternatives to Exchange that are lower in cost? I am running Server 2008 Standard. I need to send out emails for receipts to my customers that the procedure is tied into the SQL. I lost all ability to receive emails in Exchange and send from the SQL server so I am giving up and trying something else. Any comments are very welcome.

I've been using MDaemon from Altn.com for 10+ years. Seriously, it doesn't get any easier.
Hi,

Exchange Server 2010 is pretty stable and scalable product. I feel its more of the configuration issue than the product itself.

This was the only reply for an alternative. I am sure here are mere out there but other comments are still welcome. I think I may have to stick with Exchange Server for now.
