How Do You Extend A Response Timer In Outlook

Hello,

I'm running Office 2007 on Windows 7 and am apparently running into some latency problems in that messages with several attachments are giving an error message saying that the SNTP server did not respond in time.  The mails are actually being sent and received, but Outlook thinks they aren't and keeps trying to resend them.  Does anyone know if there is a timer variable somewhere in Outlook that I can extend to make it wait longer for the response?

Thanks,

Peter
