sbs2003, mailbox store is dismounting every now and then, most clients don't appear to connect to exchange. The ones who can, get undeliverable's when trying to send.

under mailbox store in system manager, there are no folders at all. Normally i would expect to see at least Logons and Mailboxes. But these do not appear.

I am assuming some sort of corrupted store?

The mailstore will dismount on a regular basis if it exceeds the maximum database size.

If you have not already tweaked the registry to increase the default 18Gb limit of Exchange 2003 SP2, please change the limit by reading the following article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912375

The Database size can be calculated by adding the size of the .EDB to the size of the .STM file, then take away the space identified in Application Event Log Event ID 1221.

If you hit the 75Gb limit, you can only archive mail or upgrade to Exchange 2007 / 2010 (SBS 2008 / SBS 2011) which doesn't have the 75Gb limit.

I often forget how silly exchange 2003 is! Added the value in. Doing another reboot of the server.

an initial test (before this reboot, just restarting the MSexchange IS service) had it still disconnecting when trying to send. also the logons folder under the Mailbox Store did not show up.

Did you re-mount the store in Exchange System Manager and check that the Microsoft Exchange Information Store is started, then mounted?

Author

Commented:
yep. still waiting on the reboot to finish so will double check all again after that.

Okay - are all the Microsoft Exchange Services that are set to Automatic started and if so, is the mailstore mounted in Exchange System Manager?

Did you let the wizard change your settings, or did you do it manually?

all services started, mailbox store mounted

which wizard are you talking about? everything so far is either command line, registry or management console . . . ?

The link I posted has a couple of MS Wizards to complete the changes for you.

Okay - if all is started on the server - the clients should be connected.  Can you close and re-open a client's Outlook (after a two minute wait to make sure it closes properly) please.

Can you re-run the Connect to the Internet Wizard again please - change nothing and let it complete, then see how things are.

Luckily it is an office which doesn't rely on its email!

hmm bit of an issue in that the server doesnt have server management in administrative tools. any way to get server management back or is there another way to run CEICW?

did find a guide to get server management back, but it only worked with the disc . . .
