Hi,

I want to run an unattended installation of a remastered edubuntu 11.10.

I edited the example-preseed.txt file at https://help.ubuntu.com/11.10/installation-guide/example-preseed.txt, saved it as preseed.cfg in the root folder of the cd and added the following to isolinux.cfg:

label autoinstall
menu label autoinstall - unattend install ubuntu
  kernel /casper/vmlinuz
  append file=/cdrom/preseed.cfg boot=casper only-ubiquity initrd=/casper/initrd.gz --

I re-created the iso using mkisofs as follows:

mkisofs -D -r -V “edubuntu-custom” -cache-inodes -J -l -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -o ~/autoinstall.iso ~/edubuntu_files

When I ran the cd and chose the autoinstall option it appeared to be installing unattended but after about a minute the usual attended installation started.

How can I perform an unattended installation of a remastered edubuntu image?

Thank you in advance.

Hi!

I think there are some things missing / mistyped or alike in your preseed.cfg. It can be quite hard to get all lines right in the preseed file!

Hi,

Is there a tool that I can use to create the preseed file other than Kickstart?
If you make an installation you can run some commands (install debconf-utils) afterwards in a terminal and get clues what to put in the preseed file.
