Inbox Repair Tool Keeps Finding Errors

Hello,

I've been having some Outlook problems lately.  I'm running Office 2007 on Windows 7.  I'm running SCANPST as an administrator on a PST of about 1.4gb.  I run it successively as a test and no matter how many times I run it, it keeps finding errors in the PST.  I'm not opening the file between runs and there seems to be ZERO diagnostic information about what or how many errors are being repaired.  The file still has problems.  Can anyone explain this?

Thanks,

Peter

I do not know if there are errors that SCANPST cannot fix. It stands to logical reason that there might be.

You could try copying the PST to a safe, non-Outlook location. There, copy it again to backup.pst.

Now (Outlook Closed) go to control panel, Mail32 and delete the Outlook Profile. Now open Outlook and create a new profile, then import the mail from backup.pst. See if that fixes the error.

1. Do make sure you have a super safe backup.
2. Removing your profile may delete your email accounts, so first make a record of your email accounts including advanced settings (authentication and ports).

you can also repair it on another pc  - maybe the original has ram, or disk problems..
you can always test these from UBCD : http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

It is possible that scanpst always reports error on a same PST file, due to the strange behavior of the tool.

If this occurs, then you can try to create a new PST file and copy the items from the old PST file to the new one, thus to make sure the new PST file is error-free.

chcw  -- You have posted the same information as in my first post.

Peter044 - We have been interacting in another Outlook question of yours as well. In addition to the information nobus and I have posted here, you can always try another Windows userid (user profile). Set up Outlook in the new profile and copy (or import) the mail to Outlook in the new profile. Then see if SCANPST works.

You may have an overall problem with Office (looking at the other post as well).

I think you are right Thinkpads.  I'm getting one problem after another.  I'm getting an upgrade from the office next week to 2010 and will count on that fresh install to fix everything.

After "repairing" Outlook from the control panel, I ran it again and the type of error changed to "minor inconsistency."  It looks to have been an Outlook problem rather than a PST problem.
