it can be there are tasks running in the background - you can try to stop them
examples : backup, AV scan,
you can disable programs and services at starupt to chekc :
in the run box, type MSCONFIG
in startup tab, click disable all
in services tab, click Hide MS services - now click disable all
reboot and test

This can happen if someone is typing into a table that spans multiple pages.  If so, break the table up or better still use Excel for that sort of data.

If not and other apps are affected with delays or the PC seems excessively busy all the time then check the Performance tab of the Task Manager.  Select off its menu to show Kernel Times.  if the red line and the green line are both persistently high when the PC is doing little then you may have faulty hardware generating loads of interrupts.  You can troubleshoot that with a tool called RATTv3.  I've seen this a few times from USB hardware.  Sometimes the main task list shows nothing busy but the performance tab says otherwise.  Other times, everything that would normally use 2-3% of CPU eats more than 10x that amount.

nobus: we try to disable all services but does not make much significant changes to the the lag in word

cantoris: i show the kernel time on the machine that is having this issue. red line is not persistently high.

did a hard disk, ram test in BIOS and all passed. quite puzzling. would change a new hard disk and see if the issue still occur.
