Hi all, i need some help on start menu redirection, using GPO's.

What i want is to create a personalised start menu where i would leave only the programs i want my users to run.

I tried, but some users are ok, some dont.

Any good tips on this?

You are redirecting the start menu or are you removing Start Menu items?

the main idea was to the redirection, to remove some items, without compromising admin start menu, making it lighter and faster.

Redirection does not remove items

I think you are putting two things together that are separate so, this is what I'm trying to find out.

Redirection is separate then anything else like removal of certain things from the start menu

If you're re-directing, you're using the "profile path" on the user's account to specify a user profile you've designed.  You can also combine it with (or use by itself) policies that cut down the start menu. Most of the items in your local computer policy -> user configuration -> administrative templates -> "start menu and taskbar" contains the settings you can allow or deny to make it strict. I've used both the user profile path redirection and group policy to create my own customized start menu for users.

How do you have it configured?

Author

i configured the GPO, to point to a network share, and also enabled the remove commons items from strat menu.
Then when i first logged in, i got a brand new start menu, with just the a few items.
but i could not add new items, because of folders permissions. or i didnt know how to do it, because i was unable to create the shortcut.

Ok, now i need another help...

I had an idea of adding/removing items from the DEFAULT USER start menu, where the new user start menu, is created automatically.

Everything is ok, the menu is working fine, but eventually i will want to add/remove stuff from the menu, but if i do it on the DEFAULT USER menu, changes are not reflected on the old user.

How can update it?
