It seems that every other time I turn my iphone on and browse some of the apps are refreshing with a progress bar, it only takes a second but seems to slow down the process. I do not have wifi sync on.

It probably depends on the apps you run / I run. I get updates from time to time, but it is not constantatly refreshing.

Go to App Store and see if any apps are in need of update (red number in the update icon).
Is your IOS up to date?   V5.1 at this time.

Go to iTunes and check your apps for updates. Then plug into iTunes with your USB cord and make sure all is sync'd.  ...   Thinkpads_User

All apps are up to date. Is there a way to disable the iphone from checking for updates and just use it through Itunes?

I don't think so. However you can simply ignore the iPhone indicator. I ignore it. When I see it, I go to iTunes and do the updates I want (or remove the app) and when that is complete. I simply re-sync with iTunes. This works well and there is very little iPhone overhead just to check. ... Thinkpads_User

IOS 5.1.1 is out, so you might update. I have had lots of App updates since this post, but as noted I get them all through iTunes and my iPhone is not troubled at all.

Thank you. I guess in the end may just be the number of apps you have. My apps do refresh, but I do not have that many, and I am not finding it a big burden.
