I have an Exchange server which has the incoming mail checked by a Barracuda 300 before being distributed by the Exchange server, all this is behind a Draytek router with built in firewall. I have port 25 forwarded to the Barracuda and ports 80, 143, 443 and 3389 fowarded to the Exchange server.

I have a Macbook Pro running Mac Mail using SMTP to send mail, but connot connect to the Exchange server. What's going on? Is it using a different port?

you need to check the smtp connector on the exchange server and set it to allow relay as by default it should only allow authenticated users to relay mail , i.e from active directory. I don't know what version of exchange you are on to tell you the settings.

The system was working before the Barracuda was in place. Previously all ports were forwarded to the exchange, now port 25 is sent to the Barracuda.

can you telnet to port 25 from the mac? does it allow in?
telnet serverip 25
I forced Mac Mail to use port 487 and forwarded port 487 to the Exchange server.
