Is it using it's default settings or you customised it with your own it's own static IP address?

I put a static IP on it.
Can you leave it to DHCP so that it can get an IP address as well, I suspect it has to do with a default gateway. Then check if the clients can get IP address if they do then it's a misconfiguration issue.
The default gateway is the sonicwall which is the dhcp server.  That's why I am a little confused.
If the DHCP service on the since works fine then, let's reset the HP switch.

Q: How do I reset factory defaults on the ProCurve 1800 Series Switches?
If you have forgotten the switch's IP address or administration password you can return the switch to its factory default state by following these steps:

Remove the power cord from the back of the switch.
Connect port 1 to port 2 on the front panel, using a standard network cable.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the switch.
Wait at least 40 seconds before disconnecting port 1 from port 2.
After completing this procedure, the password will be empty, the network address will be returned to the default 192.168.2.10, and all configuration settings will be returned to the original factory defaults. NOTE: Since this process creates a temporary loopback condition on the switch, it is recommended that you remove the switch from a production environment until the process is complete.
Update procurve firmware.
If you have several VLANs, you need to enable and configure routing and DHCP relay (ip helper)
You must also disable the procurve internal DHCP

What type/model of Procurve are we talking about?
Is DHCP snooping enabled?
Is it a layer 2 or 3 switch?

I removed the gateway from the Static IP info and I was able to obtain an IP as well as browse the internet. The issue now, is the daisy chained procurve. I am able to obtain and IP when connected to the 2nd procurve but I it will not route, cannot browse the internet or internal lan.

Any thoughts?
Maybe it's just me, but isn't it a bit too fast to suggest a factory reset and firmware upgrade, before we even know what type of switch are we talking about?
