Want to tap in to Intel AES-NI instructions on Redhat 6...

I am wondering what all would be required to get aes-ni working on redhat with openssl enabled applications? Would one simply be able to choose an AES cypher and be good "out of the box"?

OpenSSL allows you to tap into this, I don't know how to do so personally but I've seen the John the Ripper password cracker leverage it using openssl: http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/boosting-openssl-aes-encryption-with-intel-ipp/
