Qmail to Exchange - Mailbox level forwarding

We have a qmail server that has been in use for years and we are finally moving to exchange 2010 server. We have hundreds of users and migrating them all at one time is out of the question. Is there a way we can have both email servers active but forward specific user mailboxes from qmail to exchange? We want to wait to change the MX record as it will take sometime before we can get everyone migrated and they cannot miss any emails (very time critical). Any suggestions are welcome.

Ultimately I plan on phasing out the qmail server completely. That .qmail file looks to be the easiest solution I think I will try that. Thanks for the info, I will test this with a user and get back with you.

Can you send a link on the proper setup of the .qmail file? I found a few things but they don't cover forwarding.
all it needs to have is the address to which you are forwarding
&username@domain.com

In your case, you want it to be routed to the exchange so you would use
&username@exchange.domain.com

This presumes that the handling of emails for username@domain.com will be the same as username@exchange.domain.com.

What is your qmail setup like, do you have vpopmail, or similar access?

We are using vpopmail I believe. Thanks again for the info I will test with a user here shortly.
Have you looked at using maildir2smtp to pump the maildir messages out?
I believe this process does not delete the messages from the existing Maildir.
