Applications won't run on p2v virtual machine.  Wow64 emulation errors

ReedServices used Ask the Experts™

We created a virtual machine from a physical machine. (actually 4 of them) When we try to run some applications on one of the machines we get this error:

1. The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click on OK to terminate the application.

2. The image file D:\..... is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine.

3. Wow64 Emulation Layer Event ID 1109 -- The program for feature "\??\D:\Program Files\.... cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64 bit versions of Windows.

The server we converted to a vm is a Windows 2003 SP2 64 Bit Standard machine.  The vm we created in Hyper-V is configured the same.

Re-installing the applications are not the solution as they are custom accounting apps and require a $10k install charge from the manufacturer.

Any ideas?

It looks like maybe the software is linked to some part of the physical hardware (maybe similar to Windows Product Activation?). I would check with the software developer to see if they support Virtual machines. If they charge that much for installs you're probably paying a large fee for everything else and invalidating your support/SLA might not be a good idea.
They support VM's.  The issue isn't with the software binding to hardware.  It doesn't have any activation like that.
How did you create the VMs?
