Hi,

When we add esx host in the vcenter it prompt for userID and password. Do we need to enable the SSH port to do that?

No, just use the root username and password, you've setup on the ESX host, when you installed the host.

You would require an ESX administrative account for adding Host to Vcenter, if you not set any password the the default username and password would be required.

Nope..not at all. All you need is the root user and pwd. If you put in hostname, you need the fully qualified name of the host (host1.yourdomain.com); or, you can just have the IP of the host.

Thank you, but how does it go ahead and check the password?

it checks the password against the password stored in the password file of your ESX/ESXi server.
