Dear Experts:
We have a very old SAN box with about 6 TBs.
There are 2 ESX v4 Hosts attached to it.
Our Windows infrastructure is based on Windows 2008 R2 OS.

We are planning to replace this SAN box and we would like to know if there is any way to do side by side migration.
For example:
Create another SAN box (brand new one) and migrate VM one at a time to minimize the downtime and risk.

Any best practices or procedures are appreciated.
Regards,

Charlie

You can add the new SAN to existing ESX Host servers and use Storage vMotion to Migrate VMs in realtime between datastores with zero downtime.

Do you have Storage vMotion options in license?

if no storage vMotion, you can use the Cold Migrate function with the VM off, to move VMs between datastores, just click Migrate, and select the new Datastore.
Another option is to use VM Converter, to move the VM from one datastore to another.  This is a free solution that will require minimal downtime.
