Zalman USB hard drive that can boot ISOs - is there a trick to getting machines to boot off it?

Anyone using the zalman zm-ve200 or 300?  great device - an external usb hard drive and you can store ISOs on it, choose what ISO to boot from and saves you having to carry around lots of CDs.

but I'm having a heck of a time getting it to boot reliably. I'll press F12 at startup on a dell machine, then choose USB device or internal / USB CD drive.  sometimes it'll boot, sometimes not, on the same ISO.  sometimes I change USB slot it's connected to and get results / no results.  sometimes I have to uninstall other external usb drives.

Is your mobo BIOS the latest? IMHO this strange behavior is the problem of BIOS when USB boots once and then refuses to do the same.
this is my experience with several PCs - it's always a game as to what usb port to use and choose USB device or CD drive to boot from

Interesting. Is this externally powered USB disk?
