Greetings,

I am sending a VMware ESXi5 host server to the DR site. I built a 2003 server on the SAN that is going as well. should I make this 2003 server a DC before sending it up or once it gets there? didn't know if there would be an issue if it's offline for a couple of days because of the upcoming weekend.

thanks

Probably no issue, but most certainly best to DCPROMO at the site..

I would dcpromo the server when it hits the site. This way you can verify services are running correctly (example: DNS).

If you do it there then you don't have to worry about the IP change and updating that information.

Being offline for a few days is ok (the key is the tombstone lifetime period)

Don't forget to create a new site In AD for the DR site (not sure if you have done that already)

Thanks

Mike

mkline71 - I did not do that yet. I found several links with steps to doing so but always like to get steps and other insights into almost everything I do from experts here. I'll post another question asking for steps on how to create another AD site and add this server to it, then I'll post the link here.

actually, link here

dcpromo it at the site. (you can then check if replication and your WAN is up to it!)
